I have started to look into the idea of past and present. how our modern day essentials looked when they were first created. All of these designs have taken years to develop to the standard they are and will continue to for many years.

you can see how dramatic the change is, this is down to colour , shape size and even materials.

Its crazy to me that these designs have developed that much yet still kept the same function.

the part that has interested me the most is the microphone- how originally they were large and made from metal- now you can get tiny microphones in your phone , earphones and professional ones that don't even need a wire they can be bluetooth.

I love how designers have the ability to realise that a product works perfectly fine but develops the item to be more effective to their purpose.

to experiment what buttons i wanted for my casette player i drew small sketches and thought of pros and cons about each of them. at this point in time i am swaying towards the circular buttons as they are organic which ties into my project and ergonomically shaped so fingers will fit on them perfectly.

The theme of music interests me - so I decided to explore how i could develop these well known musical devices. i came to the conclusion that the cd player , the beat pad and the cassette player will be the most effective to explore.

i sketched out small designs - the cassette player being less retro and more 21st century - the cd player using less materials and the beat pad being developed for those with short site.

once these sketches were on paper i decided i want to take the cassette player further into this project. this is because i felt it will challenge me the most. whether i will be able to create this item into something my generation will buy and how can i do that.

as well as this i loved the way my first sketch looks , it has a warm feel and by sketching on my orange post it notes makes the item seem warmer. this may mean i want to take this colour further also.

using my research into presentation techniques i have sketched up a view of how i would like my work to look in the exhebition. i have included a back view and a front . this is because i would like my box to be appealing from all angles so i am able to attract the attention of those anywhere in the room.

to ensure my presentation is eye-catching i will use the colour orange (as it has been a continues theme all through my project) and fairy lights. i will also display a large logo , brand name and my name. this will make sure people know ,even before seeing a large portion of my work , what they are looking into.

the front view will include my final product , prototypes and design boards. this shows the development of my product. as well as showing people how much work had to go into such a simple product it will also give them information on what they're looking at.

i have also showed what will be on these design boards.

when completing my access fm assessment it came to my attention i had only brushed on cost, size and safety. I have researched deeper into each of these sections. I do think i need to do some more in depth research into safety and find out all the specific tests my product would need to partake in before sales.
